Spring is almost here! We love this time of year when the days start to get longer the birds are starting to chirp again and the brutal cold of winter begins to subside. Even though winter’s days are numbered your skin might still be feeling the effects of the harsh winter weather.
Cold can do a number on skin, especially, if it’s already dry or sensitive to begin with. Today we’re sharing a few quick and easy tips to keep your skin happy and healthy as you transition into Spring.
Skip Washing Your Face
Yes, you heard us right! Your skin does not need to be washed 2x a day. You’ll want to wash your face before you go to bed, especially if your wear makeup and sunscreen, then apply your usual serums and moisturize.
But, you do not need to wash your face again in the morning! Even if you take a shower avoid getting your whole face wet and washing it. This keeps your skin’s natural oils on it which are the best moisturizer.
We can’t say enough good things about the benefits of oil cleansing. This is a fantastic way to remove makeup and grime but still leave your skin feeling moist and hydrated.
Cleansing your skin should not be a harsh experience with drying soaps. Your skin shouldn’t feel tight or itchy afterwards, those are all signs that you are over cleansing, stripping your skin and probably using the wrong cleanser for your skin type and disrupting skin’s delicate acid mantle.
You still want to make sure your exfoliating 1 to 2x a week, with a gently exfoliator. Removing dead skin cells allows your serums and moisturizes to penetrate properly and do the job that they need to.
Layers aren’t just for your clothes when it’s cold. Layering products can be very beneficial. Add a moisturizing serum before your night cream or face oil.
You always want to make sure you allow 30-60 seconds between the application of products for proper absorption and apply your products starting with the lightest consistency and ending with the heaviest consistency.
We are toner junkies! You always want to swipe your face with the gentle toner after cleansing. Then apply your products to damp skin. We love a spray toner, too, just spritz your face for a burst of hydration in the middle of the day.
Hydrate Your Body
If your body isn’t consistently getting enough water your skin is going to to show it. It doesn’t matter what you’re putting on your face, either, if your body isn’t properly hydrated. We’ve read that you should aim for at least half of your body weight in ounces of water per day, but we think that is way too low! We aim for 100 ounces of water a day. You’ll want to drink even more, too, if you have caffeine. Adding a fish oil can help, too. You’ll want to buy fish oil that is from wild caught, small fish.
Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
Duh! We know that you know this one but need a good moisturizer. This is the time where you’ll want to, if you have really dry skin, use of face oil and then still use a moisturizer. This time of year we use 3 three products every night, serum, oil and moisturizer, to keep our skin, which is super dry and we are in a cold part of the United States, moist and hydrated.
It is important to note that healthy, beautiful skin comes from a healthy body. Make sure you are eating lots of organic fruit and veggies, exercising, drinking plenty of water and staying away from unhealthy processed and sugar filled foods.
